2010 First Dandelion Contest Winner - Katie Nellis, Freshman Art major from Pennsylvania

Katie found these Dandelions on Friday, March 19th, against Tavilla hall on the South side. The RD’s son Henry played an important role in the discovery of the dandelions, and will share in glory of victory.

Once I get my hands on a box of Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies, I will make sure that they are delivered to Katie! Congratulations.

This is a record-breaking early find!

Maybe there really is something to the dandelion-global warming connection. I learned that National Arbor Day Foundation has revised the hardiness zone map in 2006 (you know that map that is on the back of seed packets that tells when to plant things). This reflects a significant upward shift in the seasonal temperatures expected in a given latitude. No doubt change is afoot.    -cs
