Bio Dept PICTURE OF THE WEEK

Announcements:

  • <<Your announcement here! Ask Dr. Story!>>

  • There will be another ALL BIOLOGY MAJORS mandatory meeting on April 1 during convocation. Put it on your calendars! More details TBA.
  • Biology Tea Time Friday at 4:30. Vienna fingers, tea and company. 2nd Floor lobby KOSC.
  • Be sure to use MyGordon site. Here you can figure out what classes are being offered and make sure there is room, etc before going to your advisor to enroll. No need to go to registrar anymore for registering! Remember to enter only your username, not the (@gordon.edu) when you log in. -cs
  • All Pre-Health Professions info (MCAT books, things sent from various schools, etc) is now over in Lane at the Career Services office (next to Gillies on the chapel side). Go meet the friendly people there. See pics! I wonder if any of you have gone over there yet to use the MCAT books, etc. Let me know if you are. Also, be sure to set up a mock interview with them before any job or med school interview. -cs
  • Dr. Keller is still recruiting all of us to help collect specimens for the Gordon collection. Here is what he wrote: " This is a great time for students to find specimens to bring to me to prepare for our collections.  If a student finds a dead bird or mammal THAT DOESN’T STINK (!), they should put it in a ziplock bag or plastic shopping bag and bring to me.  If they can’t find me, they can put it in the freezer immediately." Critter coolers are not located in KOSC 3rd floor. Please label the bag with your name, if possible. -gk

Semi-permanent Announcements

  • All Bio Majors are required to take upper level Plant Biology course with lab (not Crops & Society, not STA.) -mz
  • Take STA for Core - Satisfies Global Education Theme
  • Reminder that Lavida or Discovery need to be taken during Fresh/Soph years! -cs, db
  • Premeds remember to take Physics at Gordon! IF POSSIBLE. It looks WEAKER to take it during the summer. See FAQ on this on the internal HP website.
  • The BA/BS distinction is an important one: Those planning on graduate school (incl medical school will obviously do the BS, however, those just wanting a full biology degree to enter workforce, education, or possibly those entering nursing school or PA school may want to consider the BA. BA degree has less physics/O-chem, but compensates with MORE upper level biology classes.

  • Download and print a payroll timesheet. The new account # for Biology is 10-00-12010-7150 All paperwork must be done now through Dr. Boorse (dept chair).
