¹ The words = of Amos, who was among the herdsmen from Tekoa which he saw concerning Israel = in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Jo= ash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

² He said,

&nb= sp; "The LORD roars from Zion,

&nb= sp; = and raises his voice from Jerusalem;

the pastur= es of the shepherds are parched,

&nb= sp; = and the top of Carmel withers."

³ This is wh= at the LORD says,

&nb= sp; "For three crimes of Damascus,

&nb= sp; = and for four, I will not revoke its punishment,

&nb= sp; because they have threshed Gilead

&nb= sp; = with iron threshing sledges.

⁴ &= nbsp; So I will send a fire on the house of Hazael,

&nb= sp; = and fire will devour the fortresses of Ben-hadad.

⁵ &= nbsp; I will break the gate bar of Damascus,

&nb= sp; = and cut off the inhabitants from the valley of Aven [Wickedness],

&nb= sp; the one who holds the scepter from Beth Eden;

&nb= sp; = the people of Aram will go into captivity to Kir,"

&nb= sp; = &nb= sp; says the LORD.

⁶ This what the LORD says,

&nb= sp; "For three crimes of Gaza,

&nb= sp; = and for four, I will not revoke its punishment,

&nb= sp; because they exiled the whole people,

&nb= sp; = to sell them to Edom.

⁷ &= nbsp; So I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza,

&nb= sp; = and fire will devour its fortresses.

⁸ &= nbsp; I will cut off the inhabitants from Ashdod,

&nb= sp; = the one who holds the scepter from Ashkelon;

&nb= sp; I will turn my hand against Ekron;

&nb= sp; = the remnant of the Philistines will perish,"

&nb= sp; = &nb= sp; says the sovereign LORD.

⁹ This is what the LORD says:

&nb= sp; "For three crimes of Tyre,

&nb= sp; = and for four, I will not revoke its punishment,

&nb= sp; because they delivered up the whole people to Edom,

&nb= sp; = and did not remember the covenant of brotherhood.

¹⁰ So I will send a fire on the wall of Tyre,

&nb= sp; = and fire will devour its fortresses."

¹¹ This is wh= at the LORD says:

&nb= sp; "For three crimes of Edom,

&nb= sp; = and for four, I will not revoke its punishment,

&nb= sp; because he pursued his brother with the sword,

&nb= sp; = and cast off all pity,

&nb= sp; in his anger he continually tore them apart,

&nb= sp; = and he kept his wrath forever.

¹² So I will = send a fire on Teman,

&nb= sp; and fire will devour the fortresses of Bozrah."

¹³ This is what the LORD says:

&nb= sp; "For three crimes of the children of Ammon,

&nb= sp; = and for four, I will not revoke its punishment,

beca= use they have ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead,

&nb= sp; = in order to enlarge their border.

¹⁴ But I will set fire to the wall of Rabbah,

&nb= sp; = and fire will devour its palaces,

&nb= sp; with shouting on the day of battle,

&nb= sp; = with a wind storm in the day of the whirlwind;

¹⁵ and their king will go into exile;

&nb= sp; = he and his princes together,"

&nb= sp; = &nb= sp; says the LORD.

¹ This is what the LORD says:

&nb= sp; "For three crimes of Moab,

&nb= sp; = and for four, I will not revoke its punishment,

&nb= sp; because he burned the bones of the king of Edom to ashes.

² So I will = send fire on Moab,

&nb= sp; and fire will devour the palaces of Kerioth.

Moab will di= e with tumult,

&nb= sp; with shouting, and with the sound of a trumpet.

³ I will cut= off its ruler from its midst,

&nb= sp; and will slay all their princes with him,"

&nb= sp; = says the LORD.

⁴ This is wh= at the LORD says:

&nb= sp; "For three crimes of Judah,

&nb= sp; = and for four, I will not revoke its punishment,

&nb= sp; because they have rejected the law of the LORD,

&nb= sp; = and have not kept his statutes.

&nb= sp; They were led astray by the lies,

&nb= sp; = after which their forefathers walked.

⁵ &= nbsp; So I will send a fire on Judah,

&nb= sp; = and fire will devour the fortresses of Jerusalem."

⁶ This is what the LORD says:

&nb= sp; "For three crimes of Israel,

&nb= sp; = and for four, I will not revoke its punishment,

&nb= sp; because they have sold the righteous for silver,

&nb= sp; = and the needy for a pair of sandals.

⁷ &= nbsp; They trample the heads of the poor into the dust of the earth,

&nb= sp; = and push the oppressed out of the way;

&nb= sp; a man and his father go in to the = same girl,

&nb= sp; = in this way profaning my holy name.

⁸ They lay d= own beside every altar

&nb= sp; upon clothes acquired from debt collateral,

and drink wi= ne in the house of their God

&nb= sp; funded by unjust fines.

⁹ Yet I myse= lf destroyed the Amorite before them,

&nb= sp; who were as tall as cedars,

&nb= sp; = and as strong as oaks.

&nb= sp; Yet I destroyed his fruit above,

&nb= sp; = and his roots beneath.

¹⁰ I myself b= rought you up out of the land of Egypt,

&nb= sp; and led you forty years in the wilderness,

&nb= sp; = to possess the land of the Amorite.

¹¹ I raised u= p some of your sons to be prophets,

&nb= sp; and some of your young men to be Nazirites.

Isn't this t= rue, O people of Israel?"

&nb= sp; says the LORD.

¹² "But = you gave the Nazirites wine to drink,

&nb= sp; and commanded the prophets, 'Do not prophesy.'

¹³ Look, I wi= ll squash you down,

&nb= sp; like a cart squashed under a load of grain.

¹⁴ Even the s= wift will not be able to escape,

&nb= sp; and the strong will not retain his strength,

&nb= sp; = nor will the mighty be able to save himself.

¹⁵ Archers wi= ll not be able to hold their ground;

&nb= sp; he who is swift of foot will not be able to escape;

&nb= sp; = nor will he who rides a horse be able to escape.

¹⁶ Even the b= ravest among the mighty

&nb= sp; will flee away naked in that day,"

&nb= sp; = says the LORD.

¹ Hear this word that the LORD has spoken against you, O people of Israel, against the whole family I brought up out = of the land of Egypt:

² "You = only have I known of all the families of the earth;

&nb= sp; therefore I will punish you for all your sins."

³ Do two walk together, <= /p>

&nb= sp; without having agreed to it?

⁴ Does a lion roar in the forest,
&= nbsp; when it has no prey?

Does a young lion = roar from its den,

&nb= sp; if it has caught nothing?

⁵ Does a bir= d dive into a snare on the ground,

&nb= sp; where there is no bait?

Does a trap spring= up from the ground,

&nb= sp; when there is nothing in it?

⁶ If the tru= mpet alarm is blown in a city,

&nb= sp; do the people not fear?

Will disaster happ= en to a city,

&nb= sp; when the LORD has not been involved?

⁷ Surely the= sovereign LORD does not do anything

&nb= sp; without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets.

⁸ The lion h= as roared,

&nb= sp; who will not fear?

The sovereig= n LORD has spoken,

&nb= sp; who will not prophesy?

⁹ Proclaim to the fortresses at Ashdod,

&nb= sp; and in the fortresses in the land of Egypt:

"Assemb= le yourselves on the mountains of Samaria,

&nb= sp; and see what great chaos is happening there,

&nb= sp; and what oppression is in its midst."

¹⁰ "For = they do not know how to do right," says the LORD,

&nb= sp; "they store up violence and plunder in their fortresses."<= /p>

¹¹ Therefore = this is what the sovereign LORD says:
&= nbsp; "An enemy will surround the land;

&nb= sp; = he will pull down your strong defenses,

&nb= sp; = &nb= sp; and your fortresses will be looted."

¹² This is what the LORD says:

&nb= sp; "As the shepherd rescues out of the mouth of the lion

&nb= sp; = just a couple legs or a piece of an ear,

so the peopl= e of Israel will be rescued who sit in Samaria

&nb= sp; on just a corner of a bed or couch from Damascus."

¹³ "Listen and testify against the hous= e of Jacob,"

&nb= sp; says the sovereign LORD, the God of hosts.

¹⁴ "For = in the day I punish the crimes of Israel,

&nb= sp; I will also punish the altars of Bethel.

The horns of= the altar will be cut off,

&nb= sp; and fall to the ground.

¹⁵ I will dem= olish the winter house,

&nb= sp; along with the summer house;

and the hous= es of ivory will perish,

&nb= sp; and the great houses will be swept away,"

&nb= sp; = &nb= sp; = &nb= sp; says the LORD.

¹ Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, who a= re on Mount Samaria,

&nb= sp; who oppress the poor and crush the needy,

&nb= sp; who say to their husbands, "Bring us something to drink."<= /span>

² The Sovere= ign LORD has sworn by his holiness,

&nb= sp; "Surely the time will come on you,

&nb= sp; = that they will take you away with hooks,

&nb= sp; &= nbsp; and every last one of you with fishhooks.

³ You will go out through the breaks in the wall,

&nb= sp; every one straight before her,

and yo= u will be cast out into Harmon,"

&nb= sp; = &nb= sp; = &nb= sp; says the LORD.

⁴ "Come to Bethel and sin; =

&nb= sp; to Gilgal and multiply sins.

Bring your sacrifices every morning,

&nb= sp; and your tithes every three days.

⁵ Offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leavened bread,

&nb= sp; and ostentatiously proclaim freewill offerings;

for th= is is what you love to do, O people of Israel,"

&nb= sp; = &nb= sp; = &nb= sp; says the sovereign LORD.=

⁶ "But I have given you clean teeth from hunger in all your cities,

&nb= sp; and lack of bread in all your places,

yet yo= u have not returned to me,"

&nb= sp; = &nb= sp; = &nb= sp; = says the LORD.

⁷ "I al= so withheld the rain from you,

&nb= sp; when there was still three months to the harvest.

I caused it = to rain on one city,

&nb= sp; and not to rain on another city.

One field was rained on,

&nb= sp; and the field where it did not rain withered.

⁸ So two or three towns wandered over to one town to drink water,

&nb= sp; but were not satisfied.

Yet yo= u have not returned to me,"

&nb= sp; = &nb= sp; = &nb= sp; says the LORD.

⁹ "I have struck your many gardens and vineyards

&nb= sp; with blight and mildew;

the locust devoured

&nb= sp; your fig trees and olive trees,

yet you have= not returned to me,"

&nb= sp; = &nb= sp; = &nb= sp; says the LORD.

¹⁰ "I se= nt against you plagues like those of Egypt:

&nb= sp; your young men I have slain with the sword,

&nb= sp; = and have carried away your horses.

I have made = the stench of your camp rise into your nostrils,

&nb= sp; yet you have not returned to me,"

&nb= sp; = &nb= sp; = &nb= sp; = says the LORD.

¹¹ "I ha= ve overthrown some of you,

&nb= sp; just like when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.

You were lik= e a charred stick pulled from the fire,

&nb= sp; yet you have not returned to me,"

&nb= sp; = &nb= sp; = &nb= sp; = says the LORD.

¹² "Ther= efore this is what I will do to you, O Israel,

&nb= sp; and because I will do this to you,

&nb= sp; = prepare to meet your God, O Israel."

¹³ For, look here, he who forms the mountain= s,

&nb= sp; and creates the wind,

&nb= sp; = and reveals his thoughts to humans;

who ma= kes the morning darkness,

&nb= sp; and treads on the high places of the earth --

&nb= sp; = the LORD, the God of hosts, is his name.

= &nb= sp; = DASV: Amos 5

¹ Hear this = word of lament which I take up about you, O house of Israel:

² &= nbsp; "The virgin of Israel is fallen,

&nb= sp; = she will not rise again.

&nb= sp; She lies abandoned on her land,

&nb= sp; = there is no one to raise her up."

³ For this is what the sovereign LORD says:=

&nb= sp; "The city that marched out a thousand

&nb= sp; = will have a hundred left,

&nb= sp; and the town that marched out a hundred

&nb= sp; = will have ten left for the house of Israel."

⁴ For this is what the LORD says to the house of Israel,

&nb= sp; "Seek me and live.

⁵ &= nbsp; &nbs= p; But do not seek Bethel,

&nb= sp; = or enter into Gilgal,

&nb= sp; = or travel down to Beersheba,

&nb= sp; for Gilgal will surely go into captivity,

&nb= sp; = and Bethel will be brought to nothing."

⁶ Seek the LORD and you will live,

&nb= sp; or else he will break out against the house of Joseph like a fire, =

&nb= sp; = and it devour,

&nb= sp; and there will be no one in Bethel to extinguish it.

⁷ You who tu= rn justice to bitterness,

&nb= sp; and throw down righteousness to the ground.

⁸ It is he w= ho made the constellations of Pleiades and Orion,

&nb= sp; and turns the darkness into the morning,

and turns the da= y into the dark of night;

who calls fo= r the waters of the sea,

&nb= sp; and pours them out on the surface of the earth,

&nb= sp; = the LORD is his name.

⁹ He flashes destruction down on the strong,

&nb= sp; so that destruction comes upon the fortress.

¹⁰ They hate = the one who reproves in the city gate,

&nb= sp; and they abhor the one who speaks the truth.

¹¹ Therefore = because you trample on the poor,

&nb= sp; and exact taxes of grain from him;

while you ma= y have built houses of carefully cut stone,

&nb= sp; you will not live in them.

Although you= have planted fine vineyards,

&nb= sp; you will not drink their wine.

¹² For I know= your crimes are many,

&nb= sp; and your sins are great --

you who oppr= ess the just,

&nb= sp; who take a bribe,

and turn awa= y the needy

&nb= sp; from receiving justice in the city gate.

¹³ Therefore = the prudent will keep silent in such a time;

&nb= sp; for it is an evil time.

¹⁴ Seek good = and not evil,

&nb= sp; that you may live;

so the LORD,= the God of hosts, will be with you,

&nb= sp; just as you have claimed.

¹⁵ Hate the e= vil,

&nb= sp; and love the good,

&nb= sp; = and establish justice in the city gate.

It may be th= at the LORD, the God of hosts,

&nb= sp; will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

¹⁶ Therefore this is what the LORD, the God = of hosts, the sovereign ruler says:

&nb= sp; "In all the public squares there will be wailing;

&nb= sp; = they will mourn in all the streets,

&nb= sp; = &nb= sp; 'Alas! Alas!'

&nb= sp; They will call the farmers to mourning,

&nb= sp; = and those skilful in lament to wailing.

¹⁷ In all the vineyards there will be wailing,

&nb= sp; = for I will pass through your midst,"

&nb= sp; = &nb= sp; = &nb= sp; = &nb= sp; says the LORD.

¹⁸ Woe to you who desire the day of the LORD= !

&nb= sp; Why would you want the day of the LORD?

&nb= sp; = It is darkness, and not light.

¹⁹ It will be= as if a man fled from a lion,

&nb= sp; only to meet a bear;

then escapin= g into a house,

&nb= sp; rests his hand on the wall,

&nb= sp; &= nbsp; only to be bitten by a snake.

²⁰ Will not t= he day of the LORD be darkness, and not light,

&nb= sp; total darkness, without a glimmer of light in it?

²¹ "I ha= te, I despise your feasts,

&nb= sp; and I will take no delight in your solemn assemblies.

²² Even thoug= h you offer me burnt offerings and grain offerings,

&nb= sp; I will not accept them;

I will= not look favorably on your fattened peace offerings.

²³ Take away = from me the noise of your songs;

&nb= sp; for I cannot stand to listen to the music of your harps.

²⁴ But let justice roll down like a deluge,

&nb= sp; and righteousness like an unfailing stream.

²⁵ Did you br= ing me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years,

&nb= sp; O house of Israel?

²⁶ Now you mu= st carry Sikkuth, your king

&nb= sp; and Kiyyun, your star god,

&nb= sp; = which you made for yourselves.

²⁷ Therefore = I will send you into exile beyond Damascus,"

&nb= sp; = &nb= sp; = says the LORD, whose name is the God of hosts.

¹ Woe to those who are at ease in Zion,

&nb= sp; to those who are secure on Mount Samaria,

the notable = men of the top nation,

&nb= sp; to whom the house of Israel comes for help!

² Go over to Calneh, and see;

&nb= sp; from there go to the great Hamath;

&nb= sp; then = go down to Gath of the Philistines.

Are yo= u any better than these kingdoms?

&nb= sp; Is their territory any greater than your territory?

³ You who pu= t off thinking about the evil day,

&nb= sp; and you bring the reign of violence near.

⁴ Those lyin= g on beds of ivory,

&nb= sp; and lounging on their couches,

eating= the lambs from the flock,

&nb= sp; and calves out of the midst of the stall.

⁵ They sing = idle songs to the sound of the harp,

&nb= sp; improvising music on instruments like David.

⁶ They drink wine from bowls,

&nb= sp; and anoint themselves with the finest lotions,

&nb= sp; = but they are not grieved at all over the ruin of Joseph.

⁷ Therefore = they will now be the first to go into exile;

&nb= sp; the partying of those loungers will pass away.

⁸ The sovere= ign LORD has sworn by himself,

&nb= sp; says the LORD, the God of hosts:

"I abho= r the arrogance of Jacob,

&nb= sp; and hate his fortresses.

Therefore I = will hand this city

&nb= sp; and everything in it over to their enemies."

⁹ If ten peo= ple remain in single house, they too will die.

¹⁰ When a per= son's relative comes to carry the dead out of the houses, and calls to a survivor= in the inside of the house, "Is there any in there with you?" and he= will say, "No." then will he say, "Be quiet, for we must not ment= ion the name of the LORD."

¹¹ For look, = the LORD commands,

&nb= sp; and the great house will be smashed to pieces,

&nb= sp; = and the little house turned into rubble.

¹² Can horses= run on rocks?

&nb= sp; Can one plow the sea with oxen?

But yo= u have turned justice into poison,

&nb= sp; and the fruit of righteousness into bitterness.

¹³ You rejoic= e that you conquered Lo-debar [Nothing]

claiming, = "Have we not captured Karnaim by our own strength?"

¹⁴ "For = look, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel," <= /span>

&nb= sp; says the LORD, the God of hosts;

"= and they will afflict you from the Lebo-Hamath

&nb= sp; to Wadi Arabah."

= &nb= sp; = DASV: Amos 7

¹ This is what the sovereign LORD showed me= : look, he formed locusts just as the latter planting was beginning to sprout. This was the latter growth after t= he king's harvest.

² When they = had finished eating the grass of the land, I said, "O sovereign LORD forgive, I beg= you. How can Jacob survive? For he is so small."

³ The LORD c= hanged his mind about doing this. "It will not be," says the LORD.<= /o:p>

⁴ So the sov= ereign LORD showed me: look, the sovereign LORD called for a punishment by fire, a= nd it devoured the great deep, and was devouring the land.

⁵ Then I sai= d, "O sovereign LORD stop, I beg you. How can Jacob survive? For he is so small.&= quot;

⁶ The LORD c= hanged his mind about doing this. "This also will not be," says the sovereign LORD.

⁷ So he show= ed me: look, the Lord stood beside a wall built straight by a plumb line, he t= oo was using a plumb line in his hand.

⁸ The LORD s= aid to me, "Amos, what do you see?" I replied, "A plumb line.&qu= ot; Then the Lord said,

&nb= sp; "Look, I will set a plumb line in the midst of my people Israel;

&nb= sp; = I will not longer spare them.

⁹ &= nbsp; The high places of Isaac will be desolate,

&nb= sp; = and the sanctuaries of Israel will be laid waste;

&nb= sp; I will rise against the house of Je= roboam with the sword."

¹⁰ Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to= Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, "Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land cannot tolerate all his words.

¹¹ For Amos i= s saying, 'Jeroboam will die by the sword, and Israel will surely be led away into ex= ile out of his land.'"

¹² Amaziah al= so told Amos, "O seer, go, flee to the land of Judah. Earn your bread and prop= hesy there.

¹³ Do not pro= phesy any more at Bethel, for it is the king's sanctuary, and it is a royal house= ."

¹⁴ Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah, &= quot;I am not a professional prophet, nor was I trained as a prophet's son, but I = was a herdsman, who took care of sycamore trees.

¹⁵ The LORD t= ook me from following the flock, and the LORD said to me, 'Go, prophesy to my people Israel.'

¹⁶ Now theref= ore hear the word of the LORD: You say, 'Do not prophesy against Israel, and do= not preach against the house of Isaac.'

¹⁷ Therefore = this is what the LORD says: 'Your wife will be a harlot in the city, and your so= ns and daughters will fall by the sword, and your land will be split up by a measuring line. You yourself = will die in an unclean land, and Israel will surely be led away into exile out o= f its land.'"

¹ This is what the sovereign LORD showed me= : look, a basket of summer fruit.

² He said, &= quot;Amos, what do you see?" I replied, "A basket of ripe fruit." Then = the LORD said to me, "The time is ripe for my people Israel; I will no lon= ger be lenient with them.

³ The songs = in the temple will turn to wailing in that day," says the sovereign LORD. "Many dead bodies will be strewn everywhere. Be silent."

⁴ Hear this, you who trample on the needy, =

&nb= sp; and destroy the poor of the land,

⁵ saying, &q= uot;When will the new moon be over,

&nb= sp; so that we can sell grain?

and the Sabbath, <= o:p>

&nb= sp; so that we can put the wheat for sale,

making the amount = small, and cost high,

&nb= sp; and cheating by means of dishonest scales.

⁶ We want to= buy the poor for silver,

&nb= sp; and the needy for a pair of sandals,

&nb= sp; = and sell chaff mixed in with the wheat?"

⁷ The LORD has sworn by the pride of Jacob,=

&nb= sp; "Surely I will never forget any of their deeds.

⁸ Will the land not tremble for this,=

&nb= sp; and every one mourn who lives in it?

The whole land wil= l rise up like the Nile River;

&nb= sp; it will swirl around then subside,

&nb= sp; = just like the River of Egypt."

⁹ "In t= hat day," says the sovereign LORD,

&nb= sp; "I will cause the sun to go down at noon,

&nb= sp; = and I will darken the earth in broad daylight.

¹⁰ I will turn your feasts into mourning,

&nb= sp; and all your songs into funeral laments.

I will make everyo= ne wear sackcloth around their waists,

&nb= sp; and every head will be shaved bald.

I will make them m= ourn as for an only son,

&nb= sp; and it will end like a bitter day."

¹¹ "Look= , the days are coming," says the sovereign LORD,

&nb= sp; "when I will send a famine on the land,

&nb= sp; = not a famine of bread,

&nb= sp; = or thirst for water,

but of hearing the words of the LORD.

¹² They will wander from sea to sea,

&nb= sp; and from the north even to the east.

They will ru= n around searching for the word of the LORD,

&nb= sp; and will not find it.

¹³ In that da= y beautiful young women

&nb= sp; and the young men will faint from thirst.

¹⁴ They who s= wear by the sin of Samaria,

&nb= sp; and take an oath, 'As your god lives, O Dan;'

&nb= sp; and, 'As the god of Beersheba lives;'

they will fa= ll, and never rise up again."

¹ I saw the Lord standing beside the altar.= He said,

&nb= sp; "Strike the tops of the pillars,

&nb= sp; = so that the thresholds shake;

&nb= sp; shatter them on the heads of all the people.

Those = left I will kill with the sword,

&nb= sp; not one of them will get away,

&nb= sp; = not one of them will escape.

² Though they dig down into She= ol,

my hand will pull them up out of there;

though they climb up to heaven,

from there will I bring them down.<= /p>

³ Though they hide themselves o= n the top of Mount Carmel,
I will search and capture them from there;

though= they attempt to hide from my sight in the bottom of the sea,

I will command the serpent and it will bite them.

⁴ Though the= y go into exile before their enemies,

there I will command the sword,

and it will kill them;

I will fix my eyes on them for disa= ster

and not for good."

⁵ The sovereign LORD of hosts, <= /span>

he who touches the earth and it melts,

= and all who dwell in it will mourn;

all the land rises up like the Nile= River,

and = then it sinks again, like the River of Egypt.

⁶ He builds = his upper chambers in the heavens,

and has founded its foundation on the earth;

he calls for= the waters of the sea,

and pours them out on the surface of the earth; =

the LORD is his name.

⁷ "Are = you not just like the Ethiopians to me, O Israelites?" <= /p>

says the LORD.

"Have I= not brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt,

and the Philistines from Crete,

and the Arameans from Kir?

⁸ Look, the = eyes of the sovereign LORD are on the sinful kingdom,

I will destroy it from the face of the earth;

except I wil= l not totally destroy the house of Jacob,"

says the LORD.

⁹ "For = look, I will command,

and I will shake a sieve with the house of Israel amo= ng all the nations,

yet not the smallest kernel will fall to the ground.<= /p>

¹⁰ All the sinners of my people will die by the sword,

those who say, 'Disaster will never overtake or happe= n to us.'

¹¹ In that day I will raise up the fallen hu= t of David,

and close up its breaches;

I will raise up its ruins,

and I will rebuild it as in days of old.

¹² Then they = will possess what is left of Edom,

and all the nations who are called by my name," =

says the LORD who will do this.

¹³ "Look, the days are coming," says the LORD,

"that the one who plows will catch up with the o= ne reaping,

and the one who treads grapes,

with the one who sows seed.

= The mountains will drip sweet wine,

and it will flow down all the hills.

¹⁴ I will bri= ng back my exiled people Israel,

and they will rebuild the ruined cities, <= /span>

and inhabit them;

they w= ill plant vineyards,

and drink their wine;

they w= ill also plant gardens,

and eat their fruit.

¹⁵ Then I will plant them on their land,

and they will no more be plucked up out of their land=

which I have given them,"
